Prelude: “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”

(arr. J. Schroeder)

Hymn: “God of Life”

A Prayer of Thankful Hearts

Gracious God, as we leave the past year behind and enter into a new year,  we are thankful that in every experience we have had, You have loved us with an everlasting love, and that through it all You have walked with us, whether in gladness or grief, in silence or song.

For the new things we have learned, for life that we know a little better, for friends who are closer to us and for loved ones who are more precious than ever, we give You thanks.

Looking ahead to a new year, we pray that when evil darkens our world, You will give us light. When despair numbs our souls, give us hope. When doubts assail us, give us faith. When nothing seems sure, give us trust. When ideals fade, give us vision. When we lose our way, be our guide. Help us to commit our lives to You for the year to come. Through Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.

The Scriptures

Philippians 3:13-14

But this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,  I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.

James 4:13-14

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money.” Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

  1. I wish if our Lord Jesus come by now and we all live in the paradise.

  2. Wonderful, thoughtful, encouraging message! I often think of you and your generous offer of support (last May) at what has been the lowest point of my life (so far). I happen to be re-reading your book, "Telling it Slant" and enjoying it in a fresh way.

    In great appreciation,
