McPhail Baptist Church
Prelude: “Choral et Variations” (Rachel Laurin)
Hymn: “We Come, O Christ, To You”
A Prayer for God’s Presence
Dear God, this is the day You have made, a day in which we are eager to hear from You and to give to You our praise and worship. Help us to rejoice and be glad in this day, and all the days of the week ahead. Help us now to stretch our minds so numbness cannot set in. Help us to let our feelings flow. During the upcoming week help us to be aware of others, and help us to be aware of Your presence.
Help us this week to grow in acceptance rather than impatience. Open our eyes to see the miracle of sunrise and the silent joy of sunset; and open our souls so that Your presence might invade us and make us whole, both to ourselves and to those around us. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
Special Music: “The Love of God”
Laurel Tye and Lynda Cox
Hymn: “We Are God’s People”
This hymn from our hymn book, was written by Bryan Jeffery Leech, who wrote a number of good contemporary hymns. The music is by Brahms, adapted from his 1st symphony, 4th movement. This hymn has now found a place in many standard hymn books, which is not surprising considering the quality of the lyrics and the music.
"Music: The Spirit of Consolation"

“When David took the lyre and played it with his hand, Saul would be relieved and feel better,
and the evil influence would depart from him” 1 Samuel 16:23
Hymn: “God Who Gives To Life Its Goodness”
Benediction
Postlude: “When Morning Gilds The Skies”
(Dale Wood)
Thanks Steve for reminding me of the power of music in life. I often find the old hymns inspire me and cause a calmness to descend on my spirit.
