Prelude: Variations on ‘Come, Ye Disconsolate’ (Raymond Haan)

Come, you disconsolate, where'er you languish;

Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.

Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;

Earth has no sorrows that heaven cannot heal.

Hymn: “Come, Christians, Join To Sing”

Prayer

Dear God, we come to be quiet in your presence. You are the Creator of all that is. We live and move and breathe and have our being in You. We want to be silent before the mystery of your greatness.

We give thanks that out of the silence of the universe your living Word has spoken. You have given form and beauty to the world. You have given meaning to life’s emptiness. You have forgiven our sin, and placed within our hearts the belief that we are loved, and in turn, are called to love.

Lord Jesus Christ, in whose face we have dared to see the face of God, speak again in this time of worship. Open our inner ears to hear your voice, and fill our lives with your tender love. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
