Prelude: “I Love To Tell The Story” (Dale Wood)

Hymn: “God Is Love”

A Prayer of Petition

We recognize O Lord, that Valentine’s Day is not properly a religious observance or a Sunday of the liturgical year. Yet we acknowledge that all love has its origin with You, and that human love is part of your divine creation, that when we mark Valentine’s Day we celebrate your image in us.

Help us more accurately to reflect that image, more enthusiastically to express that image, and more intentionally to embody that image.

May we enhance our love with patience, with forgiveness, with honesty, and with faithfulness. May we embellish our love with tenderness and express our love with sincerity. Above all, may we pattern our love after the selfless love of Jesus Christ for His Church. We pray this in His name. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Mk 3:1-5

“Then he went back to the meeting place, and a man with a crippled hand was there. So they kept an eye on him, to see wether he would heal the man on the Sabbath, so they could denounce him. And he says to the man with the crippled hand, ‘Get up here in front of everybody.’ Then he says to them, ‘On the Sabbath is it permitted to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?’

But they remained silent. And looking right at them with outrage, exasperated at their closed mindedness, he says to them, ‘Hold our your hand.’

He held it out and his hand was restored.”
