Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

Which wert and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea;

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

God, Who Made The Earth and Heaven

God, who made the earth and heaven, darkness and light;

You the day for work have given, for rest the night.

May your angel guards defend us, slumber sweet your mercy send us,

Holy dreams and hopes attend us all through the night.

And when morn again shall call us to run life’s way,

May we still, whate’er befall us, your will obey.

From the power of evil hide us, in the narrow pathway guide us,

Never be your smile denied us all through the day.

Holy Father, throned in heaven, all holy Son,

Holy Spirit, freely given, blest Three in one:

Grant us grace, we now implore you, till we lay our crowns before you,

And in worthier strains adore you while ages run.

Love, Divine, All Loves Excelling

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven to earth come down,

Fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crowns.

Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art;

Visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast;

Let us all in thee inherit, let us find the promised rest.

Take away the love of sinning, Alpha and Omega be;

End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive;

Suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave.

Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above,

Pray and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.

Special Music: “He Looked Beyond My Faults”

Terri-Ann Wint & Ernie Cox

Amazing grace shall always be my song of praise,

For it was grace that bought my liberty,

I do not know just why He came to love me so,

He looked beyond my faults and saw my need.

Refrain:

I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary

To view the cross where Jesus died for me,

How marvellous the grace that caught my falling soul,

He looked beyond my faults and saw my need.

If not for grace, my soul would be a drifting ship,

With no safe harbour from the angry waves.

But Calvary’s cross shines brightly through the darkest storm,

And just in time, His mercy rescues me.

Hymn: “The King of Love My Shepherd Is”

Sue Sparks

The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never;

I nothing lack if I am His and He is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul he leadeth,

And where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth.

In death’s dark vale I fear no ill with Thee, dear Lord, beside me;

Thy rod and staff my comfort still; Thy cross before to guide me.

And so through all the length of days Thy goodness faileth never;

Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise within Thy house forever.

We Remember

This past Wednesday our national life took time to acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices made by our veterans to secure our freedoms. We therefore thought it would be a fitting time to share a personal story. We would like to thank Sue Sparks for offering this reflection.

My husband Steve passed away very suddenly just over a month ago. Steve was an avid story teller, whether they were the family stories that his mom passed on to him, or the stories that he created for our four children.  He was also the resident “Children’s Story” teller at our church, McPhail Baptist. He particularly enjoyed telling the story on the Sunday our church would have our service of Remembrance.  Every year, he would tell the story of his uncle, Private Ernie Ladd, his mom’s brother.

Erne was born in 1892, and like many young men of his age, signed up in 1915 to serve his country by going to war. Sadly, he was killed in battle in France on November 12, 1917.  The family was not given much information, just that he had been buried in France. It was very important to Steve to tell the children about his uncle’s sacrifice for their freedom.

In recent years, Steve had started to do some research on his family and had started a subscription on Ancestry.com.  I had a look at his account today, and to my surprise discovered that the site has opened access to all of their military records for the month of November.

I was able to find his uncle’s records, and for the first time, we now know that he was buried in Les Baraques Military Cemetery in Sangatte, France. Steve would have been so pleased to know this information.

It is so important for us all that we continue to tell our family stories, to give our next generation the foundation from which they can fly.

  1. The picture of Steve will always be remembered. From the first day we entered McPhail, we were always greeted with that welcoming smile. He truly will be sorely missed.
